1853
In 1853, the American chef George Crum accidentally created the very first potato chips. A guest found his fried potatoes too thickly sliced and sent them back to the kitchen. Crum then cut the potatoes so thin that they could no longer be eaten with a fork. These potato slices were found to be so delicious that they became a permanent item on the menu.

1932
In the American city of Nashville, Herman Lay starts his own company that distributes chips in the region. Five years later, he already has 25 employees. Not long after, he decides to start producing chips himself. This is the beginning of HW Lay & Company, now better known as Lay's®.

2001
The old trusted potato chips are now on the shelves under the brand name Lay's®. The cheerful snacks Bugles can still be found in the shops under the Smiths brand.

2020-2021
The Lay's® logo and our products have been given a new look! The delicious taste has of course not changed!

2024
In 2024, we again reduced our salt percentage, while maintaining the delicious taste you've come to expect from us.
